Company officials report that Dongfeng's world class research and development center has passed a key milestone in an important joint project with the Chinese government.

The project began in 2006. Dongfeng had successfully applied to the China National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Economic and Trade Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for 5 million RMB in grant monies to be used for conducting research projects into technology developments for heavy machinery. Since then, Dongfeng has invested 36 million RMB into the project. Through this effort, the Dongfeng Technology Innovation Project was born.

The project attained another key accomplishment in August when it received high marks on an assessment performed by the Economic and Trade Commission. The government body wanted to ensure the project was meeting certain goals. They came away from the assessment with a resounding answer.

The commission found that Dongfeng had successfully improved its research, development and product testing practices at its research facility. The commission also said Dongfeng’s technology innovation practices put the company in a dominant leadership position in China.

As a result of the Technology Innovation Project, Dongfeng accomplished the following:

● Finished its world-wide database center; an information network and a product design platform. With this, Dongfeng has improved its ability for designing, researching and developing new products.

● Shortened its product research and production cycle by applying the product data.

● And, finished building a wheel loader testing field, an axle and transmission testing platform and an electromagnetic compatibility laboratory .

After finishing the Technology Innovation Project, Dongfeng has successfully increased its ability to innovate, and has received more than 30 intellectual property patents from inventions made during the effort.
